How to preserve fresh chestnuts

May 31, 2021

  1. Refrigeration: First of all, the common storage method for fresh chestnuts is refrigeration. Fresh chestnuts can be cleaned, put outside to dry the surface moisture, and then put in a plastic bag or plastic wrap. Seal the mouth of the bag or box and put it in the refrigerated layer of the refrigerator. This method can keep fresh chestnuts without deterioration for about a month.

  2. 2. Ventilated storage: Fresh chestnuts are not easy to deteriorate in a relatively ventilated environment due to their growth habits. When storing, we can dry fresh chestnuts in a relatively ventilated environment. Two days later, find a cloth bag with better air permeability, put the chestnuts in the bag, and then put the cloth bag in a cool place to achieve the effect of storage. The storage time can reach about four to five months.

  3. 3. Canned food storage: You can also store fresh chestnuts in wine jars or earthenware pots. First wash the fresh chestnuts and dry them, put them in a relatively clean and dry jar, fill them for about 70 or 80 minutes, then put some straws in them, and then turn the jars upside down and place them in a relatively clean place. Dry jars. On the ground, this method can only be used to store a small amount of chestnuts, but not a large number of chestnuts.

  4. 4. Mixing sand and gravel: After drying the fresh chestnuts, put them into a pot-shaped container that can be put into them, and then pour an appropriate amount of relatively dry yellow sand. The ratio of yellow sand to chestnuts is about 3:1. Sprinkle a little water on the surface of the yellow sand to prevent the water in the fresh chestnut from evaporating completely. This can better achieve the effect of storing chestnuts.

  5. 5. Spread out and dry and store: The fresh method can also be stored directly in a cool, dry and ventilated place. First of all, you only need to spread the fresh chestnuts completely and put them in a ventilated place, which must be dry and ventilated all year round. In the absence of direct sunlight, you can store fresh chestnuts for up to two months.

  6. 6. Sawdust mixing: This method is similar to sand and gravel mixing and storage. Sawdust and fresh chestnuts must be mixed together and placed in a suitable container. Spread a layer of sawdust on it, cover it without sealing, and place it in a cool, ventilated and dark place. This method of storing chestnuts can extend the storage time of chestnuts to about two months.
