Uzbekistan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Agriculture proposes to implement zero tariffs on sugar imports until September 1 this year

Ukraine’s agroportal.com reported on April 22 that the Ukrainian Ministry of Economy, Trade and Agriculture recommended the passage of a bill to impose zero tariffs on imported sugar. The deadline is September 1. The current import tariff on sugar is 50%.

In the explanatory note of the bill, it is believed that the reduction of sugar import tariffs and the import of 50,000 tons of sugar are aimed at reducing the urgent needs of the domestic market and ensuring the competitive production of sugar.

It is worth noting that due to unfavorable weather conditions, the area of sugar beet planting has decreased. Uzbekistan's 2020/2021 market will produce about 1.1 million tons of white sugar, while domestic demand is 1.3 million tons. Insufficient sugar supply in the market has led to a sharp increase in the price of this product.
