Procurement Logic

Select the Raspberry by Finished Application

Visible Whole-Fruit Applications

Retail packs, dessert decoration and premium foodservice normally require 95/5 or 90/10 because the whole-fruit appearance remains visible after opening the pack.

Dairy and Bakery Processing

Yogurt, baked products and fruit preparations can use 90/10, 85/15 or 80/20 depending on whether whole berries remain visible in the final product.

Jam, Puree and Beverage Production

When the berries will be crushed or sieved, crumble and lower whole-fruit grades reduce unnecessary spending on intact fruit.

Ready-to-Eat or Heat-Processed Use

Products used without an effective heat treatment require an enhanced farm-hygiene, processing-water and virus-testing program. Products used in cooked fillings follow a different risk-control plan.

Buyer Risk Control

Common Frozen Raspberry Purchasing Risks

Incorrect Whole-Fruit Ratio

A carton described only as "whole raspberry" may contain more broken fruit than expected. The contract should state the minimum whole percentage and maximum broken percentage.

Excessive Breakage

Raspberries can break during harvesting, freezing, sorting, packing and transport. Handling pressure and carton compression must be controlled.

Dark, Pale or Oxidized Fruit

Overripe, immature or oxidized berries can affect the color of retail packs, yogurt, sauces and fruit preparations.

Frozen Blocks and Ice Accumulation

Temperature fluctuation, wet fruit and damaged packing can create large clumps, excess frost and poor free-flowing performance.

Leaves, Stems and Insects

Because raspberries have a complex structure, raw-material inspection, air cleaning, visual sorting and finished-product inspection are important.

Pesticide Residue Risk

The pesticide-control program must connect farm records, pre-harvest intervals, raw-material lots and destination-market MRL testing.

Norovirus and Hepatitis A Risk

Ready-to-eat frozen berry programs require stronger controls for worker hygiene, agricultural water, processing water, sanitation and virus testing.

Raspberry Price

IQF Frozen Raspberry Price Factors

Public China-Origin Listing Reference

Whole Grades: USD 2,000–5,500 per MT

Crumble: USD 2,000–2,500 per MT

These values are public supplier-listing references rather than a fixed XMSDfood quotation.

Grade: 95/5 normally costs more than 90/10, 80/20 and crumble because it requires a higher intact-fruit yield.

Variety and berry condition: Larger, firmer and more uniform berries have a different raw-material cost.

Crop period: New-season raw-material availability, weather and frozen inventory affect price.

Testing: Expanded pesticide panels, heavy metals, Norovirus and Hepatitis A testing add laboratory costs.

Certification: Organic and customer-specific certification programs have separate supply and audit costs.

Packing: Bulk 10kg cartons normally have a different cost structure from printed 500g or 1kg retail packs.

Buyer Inspection Method

How the Commercial Sample Is Evaluated

Whole-Fruit Ratio

A representative frozen sample is separated and weighed. Intact berries and broken or crumbled fruit are recorded as percentages by weight.

Visual Defect Review

A 300g visual sample is examined for color variation, damaged fruit, immature fruit, overripe fruit, stems, leaves, calyx and foreign material.

Brix, pH and Acidity

The thawed fruit is homogenized and tested for soluble solids, pH and titratable acidity.

Thaw Drip Test

The fruit is thawed under controlled conditions and the separated juice is measured against the original sample weight. The target is no more than 5%.
