From a national perspective, China's strawberry industry has maintained stable and rapid development, with an overall upward trend in planting area and yield. In 2022, the planting area reached 2.2118 million mu, with a yield of nearly 4 million tons. The top 10 strawberry varieties cultivated in China are Hongyan, Sweet Charlie, Zhangji, Ningyu, Dasailaket, Snow White, Four Seasons Strawberry, Jingyao, Jingzangxiang, and Jingyu.
From the perspective of key operating regions in China, strawberry cultivation is mainly concentrated in East China, Central South China, and Southwest China. In 2022, the proportion of strawberry cultivation area in these regions in the country reached 44.08%, 16.81%, and 16.36%, respectively. From the perspective of provincial distribution, all 31 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government) in China are involved in the large-scale production of strawberries. Among them, Jiangsu Province, Shandong Province, Anhui Province, Liaoning Province, Henan Province, Hebei Province, Sichuan Province, Yunnan Province, Zhejiang Province, and Hubei Province rank in the top 10 strawberry planting areas, accounting for more than four fifths (80.43%) of the total strawberry planting area in the country, and the total output is more than four fifths (87.48%) of the national strawberry production. In terms of brand value, among the regional public brands of strawberry agricultural products in China, Donggang Strawberry (5.558 billion yuan) has a brand value of over 5 billion yuan, and Changfeng Strawberry (4.707 billion yuan) has a brand value of over 4 billion yuan.
From the perspective of market consumption, the apparent consumption of strawberries in China is expected to reach nearly 4 million tons in 2022 with the improvement of national consumption level. From the perspective of strawberry prices, there was a significant drop from 40 yuan/kg to 11.75 yuan/kg from November 2023 to March 2024. Currently, the price of strawberries is not significantly different from the same period in 2022- there is a certain periodicity in price fluctuations. From the perspective of China's strawberry import and export situation, strawberry related commodities in China have consistently shown a net export trend, with a significant trade surplus. However, due to the continuous fluctuations in import scale and overall decline in export scale in recent years, the net export volume and trade surplus of strawberries in China have been decreasing year by year; The import and export scale of "frozen strawberries" is relatively large, mainly imported from Egypt, and the main importing province is Shandong Province; The main exports are to Thailand, Japan, and South Korea, with the main export provinces being Shandong Province, Jiangsu Province, and Liaoning Province.
