The U.S. will export more pork to the Philippines
According to a report by the Philippine Business Mirror on April 20, the United States Meat Exporters Federation (USMEF) stated that the United States will export more pork to the Philippines after the Philippines cuts import tariffs on pork to increase domestic supply and lower retail prices.
USMEF stated that the United States is the third largest source of Philippine pork imports, second only to Canada and Spain. This year, U.S. pork production is expected to increase by 1.3%. With sufficient supply, it is ready to cope with the surge in import demand from the Philippines.
According to weekly export data from the US Department of Agriculture, US pork exports to the Philippines have increased more than six times last year. The latest forecast by the U.S. Department of Agriculture shows that this year's pork imports from the Philippines are expected to increase from 167,000 tons last year to 350,000 tons, more than doubling. The total global pork export this year is expected to reach 11.544 million tons, which is 6.09% higher than this year's total import demand of 10.818 million tons. The overall supply is sufficient.
